REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
Regulations

1. Exercise of general professional duties
2. A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out professional duties as circumstances require, including:
* if employed as a teacher under the reasonable direction of the principal;
* if employed by a board without specific school assignment, under the reasonable direction of the board and any school principal where required to work.
1. Exercise of particular duties
2. A teacher shall perform, following reasonable directions, such duties as assigned by the principal or the employing authority, including:
* performing duties in accordance with directions from the principal or the board;
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning
2. Designing and preparing courses and lessons;
3. Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work;
4. Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' development and progress.
1. General
2. Promoting pupils' progress and well-being;
3. Providing advice on educational and social matters, future careers, and sources of expert advice;
4. Making records and reports on pupils' personal and social needs;
5. Communicating with parents and external bodies;
6. Participating in relevant meetings.
1. Assessment/Reporting
2. Providing assessments, reports, and references for pupils, ensuring confidentiality where necessary.
1. Staff Development
2. Participating in staff development and performance review schemes;
3. Reviewing and developing teaching methods and programs;
4. Advising on curriculum development and pastoral arrangements.
1. Discipline/Health and Safety
2. Maintaining good order and safeguarding pupils' health and safety;
3. Participating in school meetings related to curriculum, administration, or pastoral issues.
1. Public Examinations
2. Preparing pupils for public exams, assessing and reporting on their performance, and supervising during exams.
1. Management Activities/Administration
2. Contributing to recruitment, training, and assessment of staff;
3. Managing work of other teachers and participating in curriculum and pastoral management;
4. Involved in administrative tasks, including support staff supervision, equipment management, and attendance registration.
1. Working Hours and Days
2. Availability for 195 days per year, with specific hours and duties as specified;
3. Performance of duties at times and places specified by the Principal or employing authority;
4. Restrictions on classroom teaching hours per week and mandatory breaks.
1. Staff Cover
2. Supervising pupils in the absence of their teachers, with specific conditions based on school size and teacher availability.

* Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification, degree Level 6 in Art/Art-related discipline, registered with GTCNI.
* Experience: Teaching Art at Key Stage 3 & 4 with positive outcomes.
Section 2 - Additional Essential Criteria
* Knowledge of NI Curriculum, Safeguarding, SEND, IT tools, assessment methods.
* Skills: Effective teaching, classroom management, inclusive environment, teamwork, communication.
* Values: Commitment to inclusive, all-ability education and school ethos.
Section 3 - Desirable Criteria
* Experience teaching at Key Stage 5, Moving Images Art, exam success, pastoral care, extracurricular involvement.
