An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, ambitious and inspirational Head of Drama to lead and further develop a thriving drama department within a high‑performing secondary school in Outer London. This role is ideal for an experienced teacher or aspiring middle leader who has a genuine passion for drama and performing arts and is ready to take the next step in their teaching career.
The successful candidate will understand the impact and importance of their role in helping students develop confidence, creativity, and high aspirations. They will share the school’s belief that students deserve an exceptional curriculum and outstanding teaching that enables them to achieve their full potential.
The drama department teaches Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with a strong focus on developing innovative subject pedagogy and a high‑quality curriculum to ensure all students make excellent progress. The successful candidate will lead the department in delivering engaging lessons while also supporting the wider development of performing arts across the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and direction for the drama department.
* Deliver high‑quality and engaging drama lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
* Develop and implement a creative and challenging curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum that supports excellent student progress.
* Inspire students to develop confidence, performance skills, and creativity through drama.
* Lead extra‑curricular activities, productions, and performances that enrich the school community.
* Monitor student progress and support colleagues to ensure high standards of teaching and learning across the department.
The Ideal Candidate Will
* Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* Have excellent subject knowledge and a strong understanding of the National Curriculum for drama.
* Be a passionate and skilled drama teacher with the ability to inspire students.
* Have the ambition and leadership qualities to successfully lead a department.
* Be committed to raising achievement and maintaining high expectations for all students.
* Thrive within a collaborative and supportive school environment.
