Job Overview
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic consultant to join a team of 12 specialists providing comprehensive Gastroenterology and Liver services. You will deliver outpatient, inpatient and endoscopic services, contribute to business planning, and support the development of modern and innovative services.
Main Duties
As a consultant you will provide:
* Outpatient, inpatient and endoscopic Gastroenterology services
* Participation in the on‑call gastroenterology service, including weekend morning ward rounds and an out‑of‑hours GI bleed rota
* Business planning of Gastroenterology services in collaboration with the department and hospital management
* Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absence
* Additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels as required
Clinical Duties
* Assist in the provision and development of a safe, effective and efficient Gastroenterology service
* Carry out all duties at the highest standard and in accordance with current quality initiatives
* Maintain knowledge of infection control practice and adhere to the requirements in the Infection Control Manual
* Comply with Trust policies on Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and the GMC licensing requirements
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (and licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
* Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent evidence
* Progress towards or attainment of college exams
* Postgraduate thesis
Clinical Experience
* Experience sufficient to meet all aspects of the job plan
* Understanding of all aspects of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy
* Five years supervised training in a suitable SpR equivalent programme
* Attendance at the Train the Trainers Course in Endoscopy
Teaching
* Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role
Research
* Publications in peer‑reviewed journals
