The Hoddesdon campus, consisting of several purpose-built scientific and administrative buildings has more than 5,000m 2 of premier R&D space and houses an established Process Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Drug Discovery team, as well as a newly formed Formulation Development department. The Hoddesdon site has state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facilities for the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and brand-new, well-equipped laboratories for organic process research and development. This allows us to move quickly from grams to kilos whilst immersion into our pilot plant provides hands-on experience on process scale-up that cannot be learned any other way. Pharmaron's exciting growth is set to continue with the expansion of our Process Engineering capabilities, so we have a vacancy for a Senior Process Development Engineer within our Process Chemistry Department. The Role: We are expanding our Process Engineering capabilities and are seeking a Senior Process Development Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside synthetic chemists, material scientists, and analysts to deliver engineering workpackages using modelling tools, flow chemistry, and targeted experiments and support technical transfer of late-stage projects to our commercial manufacturing network. This role is ideal for someone who has worked in a plant environment, gained hands-on experience with unit operations and delivering practical scale up solutions. This process engineering role leverages modelling and data-driven decision-making to support scale up decisions. With your in-depth understanding of pharmaceutical processes combined with excellent communication skills, you function as a link between R&D process development, our pilot plant, and our manufacturing sites in the UK, the US and China, to efficiently deliver processes “Right First Time”. Key roles and responsibilities: Lead Engineer : Deliver engineering workpackages on client-facing process development projects, collaborating closely with Process Chemists, Material Scientists, Analysts, and Process Safety experts. Seek opportunities to engage with other business units and academic partners. Tech Transfer : Facilitate the introduction of API processes from R&D and Pilot Plant into manufacturing across our global network (UK, US, China). Build and maintain strong relationships with process engineers at other sites. Subject Matter Expert & Modelling/Data Champion : Act as SME for key unit operations and specific equipment/techniques. Design and generate experiments. Apply process modelling to generate actionable insights—delivering knowledge, not just data—and actively share your expertise with others. You’ll be a key contributor to expanding capabilities across the team, while continuously developing your own skills. Qualification: Master’s degree in Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Requirements: Education : Master’s degree in Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Experience : 3–5 years in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally with exposure to API synthesis under GxP regulations. Strong understanding of standard unit operations in pharmaceutical process development. Experience in flow chemistry and reaction kinetics is highly desirable Familiarity with drug product development/formulation is a plus. High customer focus, professionalism, and excellent communicate n/documentation skills. Ability to build cross-functional relationships and collaborate across sites.
