Job overview
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Medical Secretary to join the Clinical Haematology Secretarial Team based at York Hospital. The post is for 37.5hours per week, working as a member of a team providing support to the Consultant Haematologists and their respective teams.
Excellent secretarial skills and audio-typing experience/qualifications are required, in addition to a good understanding of customer relations and general administrative duties. You will be required to deal with enquiries from patients, Consultants and GPs via telephone and email.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for typing clinical and administrative letters, answering telephone enquiries and dealing with patient queries, as well as covering colleagues during periods of absence. In addition, there will be an element of booking clinic appointments for patients.
The successful candidates will be required to have good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise the demands of a busy office and manage their time and workload effectively. Whilst being an effective team member and supporting colleagues.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
7. GCSE English Language, Grade C or above (or equivalent)
8. Word processing skills – OCR II (or equivalent e.g. RSA II)
9. Typing skills OCR II (or equivalent e.g. RSA II)
Desirable criteria
10. Qualification or appropriate training in customer service
11. ECDL
Experience
Essential criteria
12. Minimum 6 months secretarial/administrative experience
13. Experience of using a variety of IT applications, including Microsoft Office
14. Experience of working in a customer focused environment

16. Proficient audio typist with the ability to accurately transcribe complex audio tapes and type complicated medical information whilst subject to frequent interruption
