Job Purpose
The Veterinary Surgeon will work closely with farm managers, field staff and third‑party producers to ensure the health and welfare of our animals, driving the business, and implementing both short‑ and long‑term veterinary plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure animal welfare is maintained at all times.
- Advising and supporting the team regarding laws surrounding animal welfare.
- Oversee health management across all farms.
- Examining animals to diagnose health problems and assess overall health.
- Testing for disease and carrying out post‑mortems of pigs.
- Advise on animal nutrition and dietary recommendations.
- Develop and roll out health plans across all farms.
- Analyse production statistics from company software and make recommendations.
- Ensure implementation and adherence to Red Tractor standards for animal health and welfare.
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records.
- Comply with all policies and procedures, including health, safety and environmental requirements.
Job Requirements
- Qualified MRCVS, experienced vet or recent graduate.
- Experience working with large livestock, particularly pigs.
- Experience conducting post‑mortems, taking samples and administering treatments.
- Ability to manage one's own time effectively and work independently.
- Team player with a positive, can‑do attitude and willingness to learn quickly.
- Good understanding of monogastric production systems.
- Familiarity with VMD requirements for running a veterinary practice.
- Understanding of Red Tractor and associated certification standards.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Full driving licence required (travelling to farms across England and Ireland).
- Excellent communication skills.
