The closing date for applications is Wednesday 24th September 2025 PURPOSE The role is responsible for managing, controlling, and optimising the financial performance of Basketball England. The postholder will oversee the finance function and provide the CEO, Executive Management Team (EMT), and Board with insight, and strategic advice to support decision-making and long-term sustainability. As a member of the EMT, the postholder will contribute to the organisations leadership and is expected to demonstrate and promote Basketball England’s values in all aspects of their work. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Strategic Financial Leadership : Lead strategic financial planning, aligning budgets and forecasts to the organisational strategy. Provide insights and recommendations to support decision-making by the CEO, EMT, and Board. Act as a trusted advisor on financial matters, ensuring the organisation remains financially sustainable and resilient Team Leadership & Development Manage the finance team (currently one Finance Assistant). Provide clear delegation, guidance, and performance monitoring. Allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines and business needs. Cashflow & Treasury Management Manage organisational cashflow, producing short-term weekly and annual/monthly forecasts. Oversee treasury operations to ensure liquidity and stability. Financial Controls & Reconciliations Conduct reconciliations of bank and key control accounts. Strengthen and implement internal financial controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risk. Budgeting & Financial Planning Lead the annual budget planning cycle with EMT and budget holders. Monitor budget vs actuals with variance analysis Support managers with financial planning and performance insights. Financial Reporting Produce and present monthly management accounts, forecasts, and Board reports. Provide clear analysis to EMT and the Board. Supplier & Debtor Management Lead on debtor management and credit control to optimise income collection. Oversee supplier relationships and timely payment processing to maintain strong partnerships and operational continuity. Regulatory & Statutory Compliance Prepare quarterly VAT returns and year-end adjustment. Liaise with external auditors and manage the audit process. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and contribute to funder reporting. Resource & Commercial Support Support the Commercial Lead with the implementation of Basketball England’s strategy to attract resources into the business and the game. Work with stakeholders on funding bids and business cases for developments across all sectors. Promote a commercial culture and contribute to increasing revenues through all business activities. Funding Compliance Ensure compliance with funding agreements and associated financial conditions. Prepare reports and updates for the Board, funders, and other stakeholders as. Audit, Risk & Finance (AFR) Committee Leadership In partnership with the AFR Committee Chair, lead the Committee and ensure effective governance of financial and risk matters. Prepare reports and documentation for AFR meetings. Manage financial risks and maintain the corporate risk register. ROLE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Accountancy Qualification, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience Experience: Demonstrable and substantial experience of: Leading an organisation’s finance function at a senior level. Financial planning, management accounting, and cashflow forecasting. Designing and embedding financial controls and systems. Managing financial audits and ensuring regulatory compliance. Contract management and stakeholder relationships. Coaching and managing staff effectively. Experience using Xero, Dext Prepare, ApprovalMax and other cloud accounting software is desirable. Personal Skills Strong analytical skills, able to interpret complex data. Proficiency in financial software and Excel.
