The Barnsley In-Patient OccupationalTherapy team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dedicated Band 6practitioner to become part of our Barnsley
team. The service is embracing positive changeand developing pathways of care to meet the diverse needs of adults and olderpeople within an acute inpatient setting.
We are looking for a skilled Band 6OT to join our team and provide specialist assessments and therapeuticinterventions for service users currently in receipt of in-patient mentalhealth care. The post is a full time position (hrs).
The post holder will work alongside adedicated multidisciplinary team comprising consultant psychiatrists, seniorclinical psychologists, nursing staff and physiotherapists.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an innovative,committed & caring OT, who will demonstrate sound clinical decision making,work both autonomously & as part of the MDT. We pride ourselves onproviding the highest standard of assessment, treatment & client centredcare in a safe & therapeutic environment. The team supports the MDT in facilitatingsafe & effective discharge of acute inpatients. The team consistsof band 6, band 5 OTs and OT assistants. The serviceoperates over 7 days with OTAs covering weekends & Bank Holidays. Shiftsare, & staff are expected to work one late shift a week. There is an expectation for all staff to cross wardand cross site work where necessary. We are a supportivetherapy team that work closely with the wider MDT. We adopt a recovery-basedapproach using evidence-based interventions and professional models of workingto inform our practice and ensure the delivery of high-quality care. A range of1:1 interventions and therapeutic groups are provided.

JOB SUMMARY
The post holder will be part of acohesive and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team. You will be involved in providing specialist occupationaltherapy assessment and treatment for individuals receiving in-patient careenabling service users to engage in a wide range of individual and group based treatmentactivities. You will be activelyinvolved in the promotion of occupational therapy within the service area.
Thepost holder will be part of a well recognised service that places emphasis ofstaff support and professional development and you will be expected toparticipate in staff training and supervision.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
Clinical
1.To manage an individual caseload, providingOccupational Therapy assessments for serviceusers receiving in-patient care and withinthecommunity,prioritising clinical needs and providing an effective service.
2.To work with service users to identify OccupationalTherapy goals as part of the overall care plan, using occupational therapyassessment tools based on current evidence based best practice.
3.To plan and implement a client centredOccupational Therapy treatment programme on an individual and/or group basis,using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
4.To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment inorder to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
5.To demonstrate a broad level of understandingof the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyleschanges and adaptations to the clients social and physical environment.
6.To be responsible for providing OccupationalTherapy advice in the multidisciplinary team assessment of service users andcarers to ensure that an integrated approach to assessment and treatment isachieved and maintained.
7.To work proactively alongside ward staff, communityagencies and voluntary agencies to provide a seamless service for service users.
8.To maintain an effective communication networkwithin the team, and to liaise with other agencies and disciplines from thevoluntary and statutory sectors to ensure that service user needs are met.
9.To maintain up to date service user records andactivity data in accordance with professional and Trust standards.
10.To provide an Occupational Therapy perspectivein multi-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, clinics and case conferencesas required.
11.To provide Occupational Therapy reports (asprequired) on assessment and treatment by written and verbal reports toConsultants, GP's and other agencies involved, and to ensure that all correspondencerelating to caseload is dealt with promptly.
12.To empower families and carers to supportindividuals with mental health problems.
13.To involve clients in all aspects ofassessment, treatment and evaluation of treatment programmes.
