At HM Treasury, we foster a team-oriented and welcoming work environment where your input is highly regarded. You will tackle ambitious projects that leave a lasting imprint on the nation's economy. We are dedicated to supporting your professional development and offer continuous learning opportunities. Your work will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the UK's economic policies
About the Team
You will be working in the Workforce Pay and Pensions team which sits at the heart of the Public Spending Group. This is a high-profile and rewarding place to work where you will be helping the Chancellor decide what to spend £1.2trillion a year on and ensure government delivers value for money for the taxpayer. You will be part of a team responsible for reporting to Parliament and the public on how taxpayers’ money is spent.
About the Job
Public service pensions form a significant share of public spending, with liabilities of £1.3tn and over £60bn spent on pensions and lump sums annually. They are also a major part of public sector remuneration, providing members with a guaranteed, price-protected income in retirement that is fully backed by the Exchequer.
In this role, you will:
Establish yourself as a centre of expertise in a complex and technical policy area, building an understanding of the public service pensions system and how it interacts with public spending, fiscal flows and wider public sector remuneration policy.
Develop strategic advice on public service pensions policy, clearly communicating the risks and trade-offs of policy issues to senior managers and Ministers.
Engage across Whitehall and devolved administrations to build and maintain strong relationships with a network of departmental pension leads.
Support the government’s defence of legal cases in a highly litigious policy area, by providing your expertise to workforce departments and working closely with the Government Legal Department.
