We’re seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a high-profile section of the HS2 programme. This is a critical opportunity for a commercially astute professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is ready to take ownership of a complex project lifecycle — from initial cost planning to final accounts.
Role Purpose
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll be responsible for managing all financial aspects of a key section of HS2, ensuring that the project delivers optimal value for money while maintaining strict commercial governance. You will take charge of commercial staff on the project and act as a trusted advisor to internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead commercial tasks and take accountability for your area of governance, with autonomy and strategic judgement.
* Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and Commercial Manager to deliver strong commercial outcomes.
* Protect the organisation’s financial interests through expert application of contractual, insurance, and legal knowledge.
* Support client relationships to ensure smooth progression of contracts.
* Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to junior commercial team members.
* Work alongside the delivery team to develop innovative commercial strategies and technical solutions.
* Prepare and manage subcontract tender processes, ensuring timely and accurate placement.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
* A degree (BSc or MSc) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent professional experience.
* Professional membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB.
Desirable:
* Strong communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills.
* Proven experience in strategic change management and achieving results in complex environments.
* High business and customer awareness.
* Ability to proactively manage opportunities and risks across large-scale projects.
* A commitment to organisational goals and the ability to adapt to evolving priorities.
