Job Description:
The service manager is responsible for coordinating staff and resources to ensure high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. They must ensure the welfare of service users and compliance with organizational standards, statutory, and contractual requirements. The role involves operating within a legislative framework, ensuring all practices align with current statutes and government guidelines, and promoting our values and care ethos within the staff team and home.
The area Service Manager will oversee and support managers of five supported living projects and community activities for adults and children of Lynton Community Care. The Service Manager reports directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities:
* Responsible for referrals, including assessments, liaising with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
* Maintain good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and other professionals involved in their care.
* Ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (revised 2012), Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
* Maintain effective control of the homes, ensuring compliance with environmental health, infection control, and health and safety legislation. Conduct risk assessments and fire checks to ensure safety.
* Work with CIW to understand and adhere to CIW Fundamental Standards; carry out statutory notifications as appropriate.
* Ensure all legal and statutory documentation related to the home is up-to-date and properly maintained.
* Document maintenance issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
* Monitor and investigate complaints, generate reports, and implement corrective actions.
* Assist with recruiting, inducting, and training staff; support team development.
* Promote openness and honesty within the home; support staff decision-making and service improvements.
* Hold regular staff meetings, provide supervision, and support staff development.
* Build positive relationships with staff and ensure effective communication mechanisms.
* Participate in disciplinary processes when necessary, including suspensions, investigations, and meetings, in consultation with HR.
* Manage staff scheduling, including shift coverage, absences, holidays, and sickness.
* Oversee medication management, including ordering, booking, disposal, and auditing.
* Manage budgets and monitor expenditure related to petty cash, food shopping, and activities.
* Safeguard service users and be involved in safeguarding issues.
* Handle applications related to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and work with personal representatives to ensure legal compliance of care plans.
* Be on call out of hours for advice, guidance, and incident response.
* Attend supervision and engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
* Contribute to strategic planning, decision-making, and business growth.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, appropriate to your skills and competence.
* Manage budgets and financial reports.
* Write and audit behavioral reports and compile relevant documentation.
The Service Manager must possess skills and qualifications to support both adults and children living with learning disabilities.
