An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerk within our team on the Acute Medical Floor.
The successful applicant will need experience in dealing with the general public, possess good IT skills, and remain calm under pressure in this challenging role. Good telephone skills, confidence, and a positive, helpful manner are essential. Duties include answering the telephone, filing, using the Care Flow system, and booking appointments.
AMA/AMU is a fast-paced environment requiring the ward clerk to meet demanding targets and be a pivotal member of the team. We also have a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, which provides same-day care to medical patients.

Main duties of the job
Providing admin and clerical support within the acute medical floor, including AMA/AMU/SDEC. The candidate will often be the first face patients and relatives see when visiting the units; they must be welcoming and compassionate, able to work independently and as part of a team.
* Welcoming new patients onto the ward, checking details on their records, and ensuring notes are in order. Ensuring identity bracelets are available for nursing staff. Compiling sets of required blank documentation for emergency patients.
* Welcoming visitors onto the ward and informing the Sister/Charge Nurse or deputy of any queries.
* Answering the telephone and responding to questions or requests appropriately.
* Requesting services of allied healthcare professionals as needed (e.g., Phlebotomist, ECG Technician, Radiographers, Porters).
* Making outpatient referrals as requested by nursing staff.
* Notifying Pathology of urgent blood specimens when requested by nursing staff.
* Requesting and collecting (or delivering) notes and x-rays from various departments.
* Ordering transport for patients as requested by nursing staff, completing the appropriate paperwork.
