About the role
An opportunity to promote students’ welfare, engagement and achievement, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and secure a positive school experience. Tewkesbury Academy is seeking two committed and resilient Pastoral Support Officers to join the academy team. This role plays a central part in promoting and safeguarding students’ welfare and personal development, supporting high expectations for behaviour, attendance and achievement across key student groups.
Responsibilities
* Act as a key point of contact for a designated cohort of students, supporting their welfare, behaviour, attendance and overall school experience.
* Establish effective relationships with students on a one‑to‑one and group basis, supporting their social and emotional wellbeing through structured interventions.
* Monitor attendance, punctuality and behaviour, implementing appropriate interventions in line with academy policies and pastoral procedures.
* Support the consistent application of the academy behaviour policy and respond to pastoral and safeguarding concerns sensitively and professionally.
* Work closely with colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies to improve student outcomes and remove barriers to learning.
* Contribute to the monitoring, recording and analysis of student welfare, behaviour and engagement using academy systems.
* Deliver mentoring, intervention and support for small groups of students, both within and outside the classroom.
* Deputise for the Pastoral Support Lead where required.
* Undertake home visits in line with academy policy to support safeguarding and attendance concerns.
* Manage sensitive situations and confidential information accurately and professionally.

* Emotionally resilient, calm and able to work effectively under pressure.
* A confident and skilled relationship‑builder, able to work effectively with students, families, colleagues and external professionals.
* A clear, sensitive and professional communicator in both written and verbal contexts.
* Committed to equality, diversity, safeguarding and the wellbeing of all students.
* Willing to work flexibly, including attending meetings, interventions and activities beyond the school day where required.
Qualifications
* Successful experience of working in a school or similar setting with responsibility for student welfare and raising achievement.
* Experience of liaising with external agencies and contributing to meetings that support student outcomes.
* A good understanding of safeguarding within an educational setting and the ability to respond appropriately to concerns.
* Knowledge of inclusion, raising achievement and current issues in student support.
* The ability to manage information accurately and securely using paper‑based and electronic systems, including management information systems.
* A full driving licence and access to a vehicle, or willingness to meet the travel requirements of the role.
