Leicestershire Police is seeking an exceptional and inspirational leader to become its next Chief Constable, providing a rare opportunity to lead one of the United Kingdom’s top performing police forces at a pivotal time for modern policing.
Leicestershire Police serves a diverse and dynamic policing area covering more than 2,500 square miles and a population of over 1.1 million people. The force polices the vibrant, multicultural city of Leicester alongside the rural and market town communities of Leicestershire and Rutland. This unique mix offers complex and rewarding operational challenges, requiring a Chief Constable with the vision, credibility and adaptability to lead across urban and rural communities.
Reporting to the elected Police and Crime Commissioner, the Chief Constable holds overall responsibility for the strategic leadership, culture and operational performance of the force. You will set the organisational vision for Leicestershire Police and ensure the delivery of an effective, ethical and financially sustainable service that continues to build public trust and confidence. As a key national policing leader, you will also influence regional and national policy, partnerships and reform.
At a time when the future structure of policing in England is under active debate, including potential force amalgamation and the abolition of Police and Crime Commissioner, Leicestershire Police needs a Chief Constable who is not only an exceptional leader, but a passionate advocate for this force, this region and who will unapologetically stand up for its policing needs at a national level.
We are seeking a proven senior leader with strong operational credibility and strategic leadership experience. Candidates will bring a demonstrable record of commanding complex policing environments, managing large scale public order or critical incidents, and leading organizational change. You will be a motivational leader, able to inspire a workforce of just over 2,000 police officers and almost 1,500 staff, while building strong partnerships across local government, criminal justice agencies, and all local communities.
Leicestershire Police is recognised nationally for its focus on crime prevention and neighbourhood policing, with recent inspections placing the force among the strongest performers in England and Wales. An engaged and proud workforce, and a committed senior leadership team provide a strong platform for the next Chief Constable to shape the force’s future.
This role will suit an individual with the ambition to lead through challenge and reform, to harness innovation and technology responsibly and with flair, and to strengthen confidence in policing by consent. International candidates with equivalent senior command experience in policing or closely aligned public safety services are encouraged to apply, subject to meeting statutory eligibility requirements.
In return, we offer a base salary of £188,656, a fixed-term appointment of up to five years, and the opportunity to live and work in one of England’s most attractive regions, combining outstanding countryside, excellent transport links, rich cultural heritage and a high quality of life.
If you are ready to lead at the highest level of policing, shaping the safety and confidence of communities now and for generations to come, we would welcome your application.
