SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary SEN Unit
Location: Ripley, Derbyshire
Pay: £16.90 per hour (inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay)
Contract: Temporary with a view to permanent for the right candidate
Start: 1st June 2026
About the role
We are working with a welcoming primary school in the Ripley area to recruit a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their specialist SEN unit. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced or qualified TA to make a real difference supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, in a nurturing and well-resourced environment. The position begins on a temporary basis and offers a genuine route to a permanent contract for the right person.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, including those with ASD, SEMH, speech & language needs and moderate learning difficulties
- Deliver tailored interventions under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO
- Support pupils with personal care, regulation strategies and access to the wider curriculum
- Use a range of communication approaches (e.g. visuals, Makaton, PECS) where appropriate
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, parents and staff
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment
Who we're looking for:
- A relevant qualification (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, HLTA, CACHE, or equivalent) is ideal
- Candidates with strong, demonstrable SEND experience without a formal qualification will also be considered
- Previous experience supporting children with additional needs in a school, nursery or care setting
- Patience, resilience and a genuinely child-centred approach
- A solid understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to keeping children safe
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
