General Description:
The purpose of this position is to facilitate and support thesafe and effective operation of the natural science lab by faculty, staff and students.
Duties and Tasks:
1. Organize and set up labs and theater classroom
2. Assist technicians in implementation of laboratory procedures
3. Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, repair and cleaning of science lab equipment
4. Control inventory of chemicals, equipment and general supplies for the science labs
5. Assist in the training of students
6. Construct and maintain plant and animal habitats

Minimum Qualifications:
Required KSAs:
7. Competencies Ability to set up first and second year labs in biology, chemistry, geology, natural science, environmental science, and physics.
8. Needed laboratory skills: measurements (volumetrics—pipeting, titration, etc.—gravimetrics—knowledge of various balances and scales), preparation of solutions, calculation and preparation of dilutions, light microscopy, tissue staining techniques, sterile methods in bacteriology, and living organism culturing and sub-culturing.
9. Knowledge of lab safety issues: OSHA standards pertaining to science labs, personal protective equipment, hazard assessment and abatement, chemical waste management and chemical storage.
10. Knowledge of computer components: simple troubleshooting diagnostics, basic computer repair and networking techniques.
11. Must understand complex scientific principles and laws, and know how to use a variety of laboratory equipment.
12. Must be self-motivated; possess an excellent ability to communicate, and good prioritizing skills along with the ability to work closely with a diverse faculty and student body.
Minimum Work Requirements:
13. Experience in a science lab in an educational institution to include both first and second year labs in biology, chemistry, geology and physics.
14. Experience with the use of Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, Internet, and e-mail.
