Advanced Clinical Practitioner - Clinical Chemistry

The closing date is 19 December 2025.

We are seeking a Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) with strong experience in Clinical Chemistry.

This is a senior role where your knowledge will directly influence patient outcomes, support service development, and contribute to training and quality improvement.

You’ll provide expert knowledge, advise clinical teams, and lead a team of clinical nurse specialists to deliver high‑quality, patient‑focused care.

The role will be working across Liverpool University Hospital Trust (LUFT).


Main duties of the job

* Assess patients and plan, implement and evaluate care using specialist clinical knowledge and skills
* Review patients and provide care in outpatient and day ward settings
* Contribute to multidisciplinary approach to patient management
* Provide education and support to patients, carers and colleagues
* Lead a team of Clinical nurse specialists
* Participate in audit, research and service development within the service

Job responsibilities

* Perform independent specialist assessment of patients to formulate a diagnosis, plan and implement care and arrange ongoing follow‑up as an advanced practitioner using highly developed specialist clinical knowledge and advanced clinical skills.
* Independently manage a patient caseload providing expert specialist assessment, planning and evaluation.
* Lead the multi‑disciplinary team in resolving patient problems, by the provision of new and innovative models of care.
* Act as a role model and expert clinician providing in‑depth specialist clinical knowledge to colleagues through MDT meetings, for patients and carers/relatives.
* Act as an innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues promoting an open, honest and transparent culture.
* Improve the experience and outcomes of care for patients by taking the lead in investigations and treatments prescribed.
* Provide a consistent and personalised service by ensuring that the patients receive the best care, in the best place from the best person or team.
* Provide social, emotional and psychological support for patients from referral and throughout their treatment.
* Deliver expert specialist evidence‑based care including development, assessment, planning, implementing, evaluating programmes of evidence‑based nursing care for a defined caseload.
* Make appropriate referrals to consultants/other specialists/members of the multi‑disciplinary team in primary, secondary or tertiary care settings.
* Be aware of risk management issues both locally and nationally and develop strategies to address identified issues.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Clinical Professional Qualification. Degree level with appropriate registration
* MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) or started the MSc ACP pathway/programme and committed to completing within an agreed time frame. Note: Post holder will be in a training post (Annex 21) until evidence of completion of MSc ACP is provided.
* Teaching and assessing qualification
* Nurse Prescriber
* Evidence of participation in audit and research


Experience

* Demonstrable relevant experience within the speciality
* Evidence of effective management
* Evidence of effective leadership skills
* Evidence of staff development and can demonstrate knowledge regarding provision and development of education programmes
* Evidence of change management
* Evidence of application of current clinical service issues and developments


Knowledge

* Understanding and application of healthcare governance
* Has an up‑to‑date Advanced Clinical Practice portfolio


Skills

* Committed to delivering high standards of patient care
* Basic IT skills, including e‑mail and word processing


Other

* Supportive of colleagues
* Enthusiastic and motivated with the ability to motivate the team
* High level of personal and professional credibility
* Act as role model for nursing staff
