Job Title: HSSW Advisor (Hampshire region)
Location: Hampshire (Hybrid/working across sites and home) – full UK driving licence required
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37, Monday to Friday
Salary: circa £55-58k (depending on skills and experience)

About the role
To provide health and safety competent advice to all parts of the business including Operations, Facilities, Engineering and Construction, ensuring Southern Water personnel and contractors operate safely, comply with legal requirements and follow the health and safety policies and procedures set by Southern Water.
What you will be responsible for:
1. Conducting site visits, audits and inspections at treatment plants across the west of our region, identifying hazards and unsafe behaviours.
2. Providing advice and recommendations to SW personnel and contractors to comply with our H&S regulations.
3. Monitor day‑to‑day site activities to ensure compliance with H&S legislation, company policies, and industry standards.
4. Act as a visible on‑site HSSW presence and point of contact.
5. Complete H&S reports and advisories as and when required.
6. Drive behaviours and change to ensure H&S compliance across the board.
What you’ll bring to the role:
7. In depth knowledge of HSW legislation, best practice and its practical application.
8. Experience in an advisory capacity on health & Safety matters, preferably in a utility, facilities, construction or critical national infrastructure environment, ideally with some process safety experience.
9. Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (or working towards it).
10. CertIOSH minimum grading (or working towards it).
11. Excellent communication skills particularly regarding interviewing and written reports.
12. The ability to coach and mentor other employees to lead them to take ownership of safety at every level of the business.
13. A passion for safety and the ability to instil this passion in operational staff.
