Description West Midlands Fire Service is seeking exceptionally talented leaders who wish to be considered for future Group Commander positions. Applications are therefore invited from competent Station Commanders (including Fire Control) who wish to be considered for future roles. Our Group Commanders play a vital role in our service delivery. The role requires personal resilience, commitment, and professionalism. Working at Group Commander level will undoubtedly be varied, with competing priorities and demands, therefore your ability to work with agility is essential. With an understanding of both national and local level issues that affect the Fire and Rescue service, you will support the Service in the delivery of our Community Risk Management Plan ensuring we are able to deliver the best possible service to the people of the West Midlands in order to make them safer. With the potential for roles at this level to attract project manager responsibilities it is advantageous that you have experience of managing or leading projects and understand project management fundamentals. Operational Station Commanders will be competent in Level 2 Incident Command and all applicants will be able to demonstrate competence against the ‘Leading the Function’ element of the NFCC Leadership Framework. The selection process will require the submission of your CV with a supporting statement followed by behavioural style selection including structured interview and role specific exercise. Successful applicants will be placed onto a promotion list. As vacancies arise a professional discussion and post specific exercise (if appropriate) will be offered to those on the list.
