Mechanical Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Designer

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development and delivery of high-quality mechanical design solutions across a range of commercial or defence-related projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in resolving design and production challenges, contributing to technical design reviews, and ensuring engineering outputs meet required standards and specifications.
This role also involves coordinating design activities, supporting junior team members, and acting as a key technical interface across engineering and project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities

Design and develop mechanical solutions to support project and production requirements.

Resolve technical and production-related design issues in a timely and effective manner.

Act as a key technical point of contact for design-related queries and engineering decisions.

Contribute to and support formal design reviews and technical assurance processes.

Allocate and coordinate tasks within design teams to ensure efficient workflow and delivery.
*
Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to design engineers and junior team members.
*
Produce and review engineering drawings in accordance with ISO standards and industry best practices.
*
Lead low-risk or defined scope design projects from concept through to delivery.

Develop innovative and practical engineering solutions aligned to project requirements.

Promote effective collaboration across engineering, production, and project teams.

Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers where required.

Stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices in mechanical design and engineering.
Essential Skills and Experience
*
Proven experience working within a detailed mechanical design environment.
*
Strong proficiency in CAD software and associated design tools.
*
Solid understanding of general engineering drawing practices and ISO standards.
*
Experience working on commercial, industrial, or defence-related engineering projects.
*
Ability to interpret technical requirements and translate them into practical design solutions.
*
Strong communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams.
*
HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience leading small design teams or coordinating design activities.
*
Experience managing design inputs across multiple stakeholders or disciplines.
*
Familiarity with regulated or high-integrity engineering environments (e.g. defence, aerospace, nuclear).

Experience contributing to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.

Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
