*Pennies are recruiting for a Senior Out of school Club / Holiday Club Practitioner to work in our Out of School Club and oversee the Pennies Holiday Club at Pennies Mark Cross, TN6*

Hours of work are 37.5hrs or 40hrs (or part time can be discussed) a week worked over 4 days Monday to Friday. This is an all year round role, not term time only. There is flexibility on shift starting times however the Club doesn't finish until 18.30pm so the end of the shift isn't flexible.

Pennies is willing to assist with commuting costs to and from the nursery if you live over a certain number of miles. Please make contact if you would like to discuss this.

A clean driving licence is essential for this role.

A Pennies vehicle is provided for the purposes of school drop off's and collections.

*Purpose of post*

To be responsible for providing a caring, secure environment, through organised age appropriate activities for children between the ages of four to eleven years of age. To work alongside the Directors/Managers to provide a child-centred environment where the children are cared for in a safe, loving and stimulating way. To ensure all children are safeguarded and their welfare and safety is promoted. To deliver childcare in a way that meets parents needs and works in partnership with them. To be able to take and collect children from school, deploying staff effectively for transportation.

*Duties and responsibilities*

* To provide safe, creative and appropriate play opportunities including preparing activities, trips out and arranging equipment
* To ensure that all activities are carried out within an equal opportunities framework
* To provide an environment in which children can adapt their own play opportunities and lead their own development and interests
* Ensure any vehicles and car seats the children will be traveling in are safe and have been regularly checked
* Ensure vehicles are kept to a high standard, engine checks, cleanness inside and exterior is reasonably clean.
* To undertake any necessary training
* To promote the high standards of the nursery at all times to parents, staff and visitors
* To ensure the provision of high standards of physical, personal, social and emotional care
* To spearhead the nursery safeguarding procedure to ensure all children are kept safe, well and secure and ensure all team members are able to do the same
* To assist the Head of PKC in leading a team of professional workers, ensuring good practice is followed at all times
* To plan and organise staffing with the staff you have, working from the nursery rotas to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained in accordance with Pennies standards when the head of PKC is absent
* To be aware of and act in accordance with current legislation, good practice, nursery policies and procedures
* To have a ‘hands on approach’ when supervising staff.
* Ensure regular communication and interaction with parents regarding their child, handovers must be personal and informative
* Implement and monitor an effective Key Person system
* To ensure records are maintained and kept up to date in accordance with legislation and Pennies policies and procedures.
* To appoint staff in roles that are suitable for their skills, experience and qualifications.
* To support the Head of PKC with risk assessments annually or as and when necessary.
* To actively be involved in planning and participate in open days/evenings, recruitment evenings and any other events that promote the nursery, partnership with parents and staff recruitment.
* Ensure staff have the necessary, and up to date training to carry out their role.
* Be aware of and support staff’s well-being
* To follow all relevant Acts including the Equality Act 2010, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (regulation (EU) 2016/ 679) (GDPR) that relate to staff employment and record keeping
* Ensuring that all staff have an up-to-date Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks
* Follow the robust Pennies recruitment procedure
* Supporting all team members to work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members
* Overseeing the efficient upkeep and maintenance of the building and grounds, stock of equipment, furnishings and fittings and report concerns to management.
* Support the Management with some administrative duties associated with the management of the club, e.g. maintaining records on the children and their families, ordering equipment, maintaining an inventory, keeping personnel records
* Assist, when necessary, with staff meetings and room meetings as appropriate including agendas and minutes
* To be responsible for the overall health and safety standards within the nursery and ensuring staff compliance and awareness, including training where appropriate
* To oversee that the agreed high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times
* To support the staff team ensuring that they are working to their full potential
* To work as part of a team
* Must be able to problem solve

· To play a part in leading and creating and enjoyable working environment

* To ensure that the Nursery Management is kept informed on all matters relating to the running of the club
* To consult with the children and involve them in the planning of resources, activities and environment
* To encourage a close liaison with schools and other related agencies.
* Supervise students and other volunteers that may be involved in the club
* Ensure that activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with statutory responsibilities
* Ensure that food provision is carried out within the guidelines of the Food Safety Act 1990
* Ensure that wide ranges of creative and enjoyable activities are offered and made available for children to access freely and adapt to suit their own needs and interests
* Be aware, understand and follow Pennies policies and procedures
* To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times
* To be responsible for the health and safety standards appropriate for the needs of the children
* To assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment
* Ensure someone known and agreed by the club/setting and parent collects the child
* To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and ensure all staff uphold its standards at all times, both within work hours and outside
* To ensure confidentially of all information received
* To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, staff meetings, fundraising events etc.
* Attend management meetings and feed appropriate information back to your teams
* Support all staff to engage in good team working
* Support team members to seek out any training or support they may require to fulfil their roles and responsibilities
* Support new team members through inductions in partnership with the manager
* Ensure all record keeping is accurate and up to date within your designated area, including accident forms, and any other forms/records required for the child’s welfare, learning and development
* To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Manager or Deputy Manager.

*Qualifications, Training and experience*

· The job holder must hold a childcare NNEB,NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) or Early years teaching qualification or Level 3 Playworker qualification

· Must be able to make decisions on their own and use their own initiative

· Must be able to work as part of a team

· Must have an understanding of child care and development from ages 4 to 11 years

· The role requires good management and communication skills

· The roles requires you to work on the floor to support staff

· Must have organisational skills, and be able to plan and budget

· Must be PC literate

· A good working knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and Local Authority Regulations of day care provision

· The job holder will be required to complete training to maintain Pennies standards and to maintain their own CPD

A driving licence is essential.
