Main Purpose of Role
To perform the role of the Commission Manager, taking responsibility for end-to-end service delivery and ensuring that client objectives are met through the delivery of an effective cost management service.
Scope
Senior Cost Managers handle commissions of varying sizes, typically ranging from £10m to £50m.
Key Accountabilities
* Commission Management, including coaching junior staff and allocating responsibilities; advising clients on feasibility studies, procurement options, and cost planning; managing estimating, tendering, and procurement stages; serving as contract administrator; peer reviewing cost allowances; producing monthly post‑contract cost reports; negotiating final accounts; interfacing with client, project manager and other consultants; collaborating with project management teams; leading cost management teams; utilizing bespoke digital tools such as The Hive, Benchmarking App, CostX, Market Rates App, eTender Platform, and Cost Control App; implementing the Embodied Carbon Calculator; supporting the NewLeaf strategy; managing internal fees, job costing and resources.
* Marketing and business development: identifying opportunities with existing clients, developing professional network, leading bid submissions, improving procedures and templates, participating in networking and CPD events.
* Internal management accountabilities: knowledge management, process improvement, mentorship of junior staff, project management on D365.
Reporting
Senior Cost Manager reports to an Associate Director, Project Director or Director, depending on context.
Key Performance Indicators
* Commissions managed to quality standards and completed efficiently and on time.
* Service delivery in line with appointment conditions.
* Development of good client and cross‑functional relationships.
* Effective teamwork and responsibility for junior staff when appropriate.
* Identification of opportunities to develop new business with existing clients.
* Accurate margin tracking on all commissions.
* Effective cascade and retention of key information and data.
Qualifications
* Ability to work autonomously and take initiative.
* Self‑motivated, able to meet tight deadlines.
* Achieved Chartered Status.
* Confident, professional manner.
* Highly organized and able to prioritize own workload.
* Ability to collaborate and build relationships across the business.
* Capability to work well under pressure.
* Ability to delegate tasks to junior team for technical development.
