Closing Date 01/09/2025 Job Title: Community Education Officer – two positions Location: 2x roles (1 in Hampshire and Isle of Wight and 1 in Kent and East Sussex) Contract Type: Perm – part time Hours: 18.5 hours (2.5 days a week) Salary: £35-40,000 per annum (pro rated) Job Overview Join Southern Water as a Community Education Officer and help shape the next generation’s understanding of water and the environment. A teaching background is essential, as you’ll deliver engaging outreach sessions in schools and local communities across the region. In this role you’ll build deep engagement with local communities and schools across the region, in line with our overall community and social impact strategy. To support Southern Water’s programme to build awareness, skills and improved outcomes for young people, on our key water and wastewater customer messages, and community education programmes. To promote STEM and career opportunities within the water industry and deliver in-person and virtual education programmes to young people, in a variety of settings across our region, with a focus on Hampshire and the Isle of Wight / Kent and East Sussex. About You A passion for, and experience of educating and/or training young people, ideally in an education setting. Comfortable speaking in public. Ability to influence others and act as a natural ambassador for the Company, seeking collaboration and advocacy in all internal and external relationships. Demonstrate a sound understanding of the water and water treatment processes, water as a finite resource and the impact of climate change. Excellent organisation and administration skills. Willing and able to regularly travel across the region, using own transport, to education programme events and meetings. Ability to, on occasion, working out of normal office hours to support delivery of education programme. Proficient in the use of IT, including Microsoft Office applications. Technical Essential to have primary and/or secondary national curriculum knowledge, particularly science, geography and citizenship. Desirable to have knowledge of the water and wastewater industry. Desirable to have outdoor teaching experience. Risk & Compliance Essential to have knowledge and experience of applying safeguarding principles and processes. Essential to demonstrate experience managing classroom behaviours. Essential UK teaching qualification. Full clean UK Driving Licence. Enhanced DBS Check. Desirable SEND training/qualifications and/or lived experience. First aid trained, particularly paediatric first aid. Package This role will be part time (Tuesday to Thursday) with a hybrid approach to working between our Otterbourne / Chatham office and home, with occasional visits to our Worthing office. You will spend a significant proportion of your time delivering in our communities.
