Gas Engineer (NCO2)
Our Role
The NCO2 Team Leader will undertake activities related to locating and repairing public-reported gas escapes. This includes making safe and repairing gas service pipes or mains, re-assessing previously visited escapes, laying mains and/or services in diameter, and carrying out mains/service isolations. The role requires exceptional customer service skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to promote safe working practices while maintaining efficiency and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend gas leaks
* Perform groundwork excavations and reinstatements
* Utilize appropriate signing, lighting, and guarding
* Ensure cable avoidance
* Deliver equipment and tools as required
* Patrol and protect plant
* Work on deep excavations up to 2.5m
* Participate in a standby rota system
Experience and Qualifications
Must have a full valid driver’s license and be able to be clean-shaven daily for health and safety reasons. Activities include supporting classification and programming of gas escapes, testing, survey, detection, and diagnostic work on the network and in customers' premises. The role involves:
* Receiving instructions, planning, and organizing resources for efficient work execution
* Laying, connecting, disconnecting, commissioning, decommissioning, and maintaining pipework and associated equipment, including non-routine and specialist tasks
* Responding to emergencies, participating in standby, and assisting in testing and diagnostics
* Carrying out excavation, backfill, reinstatement, and repair work to required standards
* Providing training, advice, guidance, and support to teams and individuals
* Advising third parties operating near the gas system
* Gathering information and preparing reports, including technical documentation
* Managing equipment, goods, and materials in line with standards and procedures
* Promoting team working and development to achieve business objectives
