About the Role: As an Assistant Surveyor you will be working in our social housing background, providing a stable and profitable contract, delivering excellent service and support through our local teams, who understand the importance of working together for the local community. An Assistant Surveyor in our Milton Keynes branch you will be assist in the measurement of subcontract accounts, maintaining the financial control of the contracts allocated, in reporting monthly against budgets, ensuring subcontractors are paid at the appropriate times, the preparation of external valuations where appropriate on regular basis to ensure Mears Group receive full payment for works. Read and understand the full contract documentation. Generally, ensure that all matters in relation to the tender are understood, including contract terms and conditions and payment terms. Assist in the procurement of subcontract packages in line with agreed Procurement Strategies for each project. Assist in the procurement of material packages in line with agreed Procurement Strategies for each project. Assist in the preparation of subcontract documentation as necessary and in accordance with established procedures and utilising appropriate forms. Measure subcontractors work where appropriate, maintaining proper records, marked up drawings etc. and complete payment certificates in accordance with the pre-agreed payment terms, liaising with lead Site Person in respect to quality of work, daywork etc. Ensure that no Subcontractor commences onsite without having an agreed signed and executed Subcontract order, the necessary insurance, tax certificates; VAT information and that the subcontract is retuned un-amended and signed prior to commencement on site. Assist in the preparation and agreement of Subcontractor final accounts. Release retentions as appropriate in liaison with Head of Commercial & Head of Operations. Monitor all costs for each project including but not limited to preliminaries, subcontract and materials. Assist in the targeting of preliminaries jointly with lead Site Person, Contracts Manager, and Lead Surveyor and ensure that sites are fully aware of Prelims allocations. Liaise with accounts department in respect to cost accruals. Assist in the preparation of monthly cost value reconciliations (CVC). Liaise with Supply Chain Manager in respect to all material and plant reconciliations. Assist in the preparation of cash flow / turnover projections each month and formally issued at end of each reporting quarter. Assist as required on appropriate projects to prepare monthly applications for payment for presentation to the client representative, inclusive of projected final account figures. As and when required throughout the project, assist in the valuation of such variations or sales extras as may arise. On completion of the project assist in the preparation of subcontractor and client final accounts within 3 months of achieving Practical Completion. Monitor any non-receipt of payments from the Client and inform the Lead Surveyor. Ensure that all operational staff and in particular the lead Site Person is kept informed of the financial position in respect to cost and value of each project. Ensure that all operational staff and in particular the lead Site Person is kept informed of expenditure of preliminaries as set against the agreed budget. Attend regular internal / external project meetings (Design, Project Reviews, and Client Project Reviews etc.) to gain experience of such meetings and procedures. Attend pre-order meetings (discussion notes) with subcontractors. Develop a harmonious relationship with operational management to ensure maximum communication and co-operation. Role Criteria: Experience if working on site-based projects.
