Length of employment: Job Summary: The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. Defence Children Services (DCS) is a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. HQ DCS is based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon, and has forward deployed staff all over the world. DCS is responsible for the education and care of the children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings; provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world. The DCS Vision is that we Educate the Child - Support the Family - Defend the Nation. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Job Description: Are you an organised, self-motivated individual looking to have a positive impact upon the teaching and learning standards within our schools? If so, this role may be for you! DCS has a vacancy for a Teacher Training & Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Lead. This plays a vital role in supporting the professional development of our staff within 21 schools and settings, located all over the world. This is a dynamic and exciting role providing the opportunity to work with our overseas locations and work with the wider Defence community. The Teacher Training & CPD Lead is based at Upavon and has responsibility for coordinating (and where relevant delivering) all teacher training. This also includes the coordination and successful delivery of leadership training programmes such as National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) and National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). You will oversee and evaluate the DCS Early Career Teacher programme and Initial Teacher Training. The Teacher Training & CPD Lead will also be responsible for liaising with Headteachers and members of the school improvement team to maintain the CPD register, evaluate training requirements and where appropriate, negotiate training packages; and design and deliver bespoke training. Key responsibilities: Ensure clear mechanisms for identifying all individual teacher and school leader training requirements; maintaining a record of formal CPD undertaken across DCS Schools and Settings; and undertaken by the Headquarters' teams. Produce (and evaluate) an annual teaching training and teaching assistant development plan ensuring clear justification for need. Support Headteachers to plan appropriate training programmes to support teachers who require intervention in order to meet the Teacher Standards; and support Assistant Heads (AHs) to plan appropriate training programmes for school leaders who require intervention to support their leadership and management of their schools. Coordinate the successful delivery of national/statutory training programmes as required; and stay up to date regarding teacher training programmes available in the UK and provide business cases, where necessary, to ensure the DCS Schools and Settings offer CPD programmes that are at least as good as those available in the UK. Where necessary, design and deliver training programmes to support identified areas of need. Coordinate the delivery of the Early Career Teacher(ECT) Programme. Evaluate the quality and impact of the ECT programme, reporting findings to the Assistant Head (Standards - Professional Development). You may be expected to undertake other duties appropriate and commensurate with your grade and the roles and responsibilities of the post, as required by your line manager. Essential skills required: Qualifications: UK Qualified Teacher Status Member of a school Senior Leadership Team Experience of designing and delivering teacher training Evidence of a commitment to your own professional development. A working knowledge of the range of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs). Evidence of supporting Newly Qualified Teachers (Early Career Teachers). Desirable skills: Experience and/or qualifications related to training/CPD/teacher development. An understanding of the military context and the impact of mobility on children, families and schools. A thorough knowledge and understanding of the challenges for military children and their families.
