About the Role
We are looking for a CNC Machinist Specialist who will operate, program, and maintain high‑precision CNC Milling / Turning machines in a fast‑paced, R&D‑oriented shop and production environment. The ideal candidate will bring turning expertise while also being comfortable on multi‑axis milling centres.
They will design machining processes, select and optimize tooling, write G‑code, and oversee production of high‑value, low‑volume parts and one‑offs. Participates in daily shop briefings to discuss objectives, issues, and improvement ideas. The role includes mentoring apprentices, collaborating closely with engineering and tooling suppliers, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Required skills, qualifications and experience
1. Programming 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining centres using Heidenheim and Fanuc controls.
2. Setting tools, work offsets and fixtures, proving out and operating CNC multi-axis machines to produce R and D and production component parts.
3. Producing component parts, working to specifications, procedures and engineering drawings.
4. Inspecting produced parts, using various measuring instruments and hand gauges and interpreting CMM inspection results.
5. Making any relevant tool or work offset changes.
6. Supporting and inputting to the development of machining processes and tooling/fixture design.
7. Liaising with engineering and tooling suppliers to improve tooling methods and design.
8. Mentoring and training others.
9. Using problem solving techniques to solve machining and process related problems.
10. Prioritising workload to meet deliverable commitment timelines and driving performance improvements.
11. Experience of 6 S and lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
