About the Role
This role provides high-level leadership support to the McClelland research lab in the general management of the group, being responsible for financial, operational, and resource management. The role also involves defining and investigating research questions, establishing and improving protocols, and contributing significantly to writing research papers and grant applications. The postholder will offer specialist advice, guidance, and mentoring to group members and will have significant teaching responsibilities on behalf of the group leader.
About You
With post-doctoral experience in a cancer biology field, including knowledge and experience with single-cell sequencing technologies, cell biology, microscopy, and molecular biology, you will see this as an opportunity to join a progressive and high-performing research lab. You will have experience managing research finances (over £1m per year) and applying for independent research funding. You should be capable of supervising undergraduate, MSc, and PhD students, as well as research technicians, ensuring their development. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for initiating, leading, and partnering with colleagues and support services in projects.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence dedicated to transforming the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in laboratories, clinical settings, and populations. It is one of six institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD). BCI is renowned internationally in various areas of cancer research, combining basic research with clinical expertise from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to improve cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre, which includes UCL, Kings, and the Francis Crick Institute, focusing on biotherapeutics. The institute is committed to supporting and developing future cancer researchers through extensive postgraduate training.
