Purchase Ledger Manager

As Purchase Ledger Manager, you'll take responsibility for the accuracy, control and day‑to‑day leadership of our purchase ledger function. You'll manage and develop a team, oversee month‑end activity, and work closely with colleagues across finance and the wider business to maintain efficient, well‑controlled processes. This role suits someone who brings structure, sound judgement and a considered approach to managing people and processes in a busy environment.
You'll join a team of around 100 finance professionals in a fast-paced, vehicle leasing group with five divisional areas. Based in Leeds, you'll work in an agile way, balancing remote working with on-site collaboration to deliver exceptional results.
What's the Role
* Own the day‑to‑day operation of the purchase ledger function, ensuring accuracy, consistency and compliance with internal controls
* Lead, manage and develop a team, setting clear priorities, monitoring workload and supporting consistent performance
* Ensure supplier invoices are received, reviewed, processed and approved in line with agreed procedures and timescales
* Oversee regular payment runs, ensuring payments are made accurately and on time, and any exceptions are resolved promptly
* Manage supplier reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and ensure issues are followed through to resolution
* Maintain strong controls around the purchase‑to‑pay process, identifying and addressing risks or process gaps
* Take ownership of accounts payable activity as part of the month‑end close, ensuring information is complete and accurate
* Act as the first point of escalation for complex queries from suppliers and internal stakeholders
* Work closely with colleagues across finance, procurement and the wider business to ensure aligned ways of working
* Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, data quality and use of systems within the purchase ledger process
* Support audits by providing accurate information, explanations and documentation when required
What Can You Offer
* Proven experience managing or supervising a purchase ledger or accounts payable function
* A strong understanding of purchase‑to‑pay processes, controls and deadlines
* Experience leading people, with the ability to set expectations, give clear direction and support development
* Confidence working with finance systems and Excel in a professional environment
* The ability to review data critically, spot inconsistencies and resolve issues at source
* A structured and organised approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
* Clear, professional communication when working with colleagues and external suppliers
* The confidence to make informed decisions and apply judgement within agreed frameworks
* A proactive approach to improving processes and preventing recurring issues
