Role Overview
Due to continued business growth, we are looking to recruit a Technical / Design Engineer to join a leading global business in Liverpool.
The role will involve analysis of technical specifications and design of piping components used in a range of sectors including Nuclear, Offshore, Oil and Gas and Subsea applications.
This is a full‑time permanent opportunity with an industry leader in their field.
Candidates will be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering with experience in preparing design calculations according to various standards including ASME and API alongside producing CAD drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
This would be a great opportunity for a Graduate with 1–2 years of experience post study looking for a new challenge with a global business.
Job Description
* Perform mechanical & piping design calculations using API and ASME codes.
* Produce detailed technical drawings and/or 3D models using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
* Review technical specifications, vendor documents, material datasheets, equipment data, and piping components to ensure they meet project and code requirements.
* Review contracts and tenders: identify technical risks, ensure scope and requirements are clearly understood, provide input to technical sections, and manage change control where needed.
* Assist with procurement or vendor selection: support technical queries and ensure supplier deliverables meet specifications.
* Liaise with quality and production teams to align designs with production methods and machining capabilities; support client inspections and assist with non‑conformity/RCA.
* Work with the project team to ensure designs are delivered on time, contributing to project plans, technical reviews, and change management.
* Maintain engineering documentation: calculation files, design basis, drawing revisions, material certificates, and supplier documentation.
* Stay up to date with engineering best practice, relevant regulations, industry standards, safety, and environmental requirements.
Required / Skills & Experience
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
* Experience working in the oil & gas / petrochemical / process piping industry with exposure to design calculations and code compliance.
* Working knowledge of ASME / API codes; knowledge of NORSOK standards is advantageous.
* Good competence in CAD tools: SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.
* Strong analytical and numeracy skills; ability to perform detailed calculations, interpret code tables, and pipe schedules.
* Good understanding of materials, welding, fabrication practices, inspection, and testing.
* Ability to read, interpret, and review technical specifications and contracts.
* Clear communication skills: able to liaise with internal teams (fabrication, quality, procurement), external vendors, and clients.
* Attention to detail, methodical approach, and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
* Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
