Overview

The laboratory of Dr Jeanne Salje at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join the team. The successful candidate will work on studying host-pathogen interactions of Rickettsiales bacteria. The lab group investigates the host-pathogen cell biology of Rickettsial diseases with a particular focus on Orientia tsutsugamushi, the causative agent of scrub typhus.


Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to perform molecular biology techniques including cloning, DNA manipulation, PCR, and to analyse experimental data, interpret results, and contribute to publications and presentations. You should also have the ability to characterize host-pathogen interactions using microscopy, molecular assays, and other relevant techniques.


Qualifications

All applicants should hold a PhD in microbiology, genetics, molecular biology or a related discipline. Collaborating with other members of the research team to achieve goals, and contributing to the training and supervision of technicians, graduate and undergraduate students are key responsibilities for this role. A proven track record of scientific productivity is essential and you will have strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to effectively prioritise lab duties, both independently and as part of a team.


Details

This is a full-time, fixed-term position with funding available for 2 years in the first instance.

The nature of the work involved means that this role will require Occupational Health clearance.

Cambridge Institute for Medical Research is a centre of excellence that has a strong focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms of disease, with the aim of translating basic discoveries to clinically meaningful therapies. It is known for its positive research culture.
