Our client, a leader in the energy and renewables sectors, is seeking a proactive Mechanical Engineer specialised in hydrogen plant operations and asset management. This full-time, permanent role involves hybrid working, including office presence, with a focus on ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance across hydrogen production, storage, and distribution systems. Key Responsibilities:
Lead mechanical engineering aspects across the asset lifecycle to deliver safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective hydrogen operations.
Establish and enhance asset management systems aligned with ISO 55001, including asset strategies, criticality assessments, and lifecycle planning.
Support statutory compliance, ensuring pressure systems and hazardous areas meet regulations with auditable evidence and zero enforcement actions.
Act as a key Authorising Engineer/Person for pressure and mechanical systems, overseeing safe isolation, modifications, and change management.
Define and implement reliability strategies such as RCM, RBI, and condition monitoring; optimise spares and maintenance plans using CMMS/EAMS.
Support design reviews, hazard identification, construction readiness, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and plant handover processes.
Provide operational support, troubleshooting, incident investigations, and manage on-call responsibilities to ensure continuous safe operation.
Support compliance with hydrogen safety standards, including DSEAR, IEC/BS EN 60079, ATEX, UKEX, and relevant ISO standards.
Job Requirements:
Significant experience in mechanical engineering within the gas, petrochemical, power, or hydrogen industries.
Understanding of hydrogen safety, pressure regulation, pressure systems legislation, and associated standards.
Experience in asset management, reliability engineering, and maintenance strategy formulation.
Knowledge of DSEAR risk assessments, hazardous area classification, and UKEX/ATEX equipment specifications.
Proficiency with relevant safety standards such as ISO/TR 15916, ISO 22734, ISO (phone number removed), and IGEM/SR/25.
Demonstrable ability to facilitate root cause analysis, FMEA, RBI, and data analytics for reliability KPIs.
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Strong stakeholder communication, change management, and technical documentation skills.
Qualifications & Training:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
Working towards or possessing Chartered Engineer status with IMechE or similar.
Desirable: Experience as an Authorising Engineer/Person, NEBOSH Process Safety certification, ISO 55001 training, Six Sigma/Lean techniques, and CDM awareness.
