Description The Service & Team: The Early Years Inclusion and SEND team supports children 0-5 years in Cornwall. We work through localities and aim to build strong multi agency links with other professionals supporting the Early Years. We work with early years settings, including childminders and schools to empower them to support the needs of children with additional needs. This can include, advice, modelling, training and supporting with paperwork. The service consists of: Senior Area SENDCOs Specialist Child Development Teachers Specialist Eary Years Inclusion Workers Specialist Social Communication and Autism workers Nursery Nurses Speech and language therapist Speech and language nursery nurses As lead officers for the team, we value the vast experience and talents of our team while we continually strive to ensure the children in Cornwall have a fully inclusive experience, feel valued, have the best outcomes and the best start in life. This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check. This position requires a full driving licence Working Pattern: This role is for 32.5 hours a week term time, but we would consider applicants who wish to work all year round being mindful that this would reduce the weekly working hours to 28.2. We can be flexible with working days and hours worked each day and this will be balanced with meeting the needs of the service. Our core hours are 09:00-15:00 What you’ll need to succeed: The suitable candidate will deliver targeted support to settings, schools and families, by introducing a range of personalised interventions and strategies. These strategies predominantly support PSED, inclusive environments and attachment. Each strategy will be tailored to meet the needs of individual children. You will work with children identified through the Early Years Service referral process; and as agreed by the appropriate line manager, usually the senior SENCO holding the individual child’s case. In addition to this, the role involves attending TAC meetings, visiting children in settings and writing advice, supporting transitions, delivering training, supporting with the completion of the neurodevelopment profile, supporting SENDCo’s with their paperwork, support where there has been a bereavement and signposting to wider services. Multiagency working is an important part of the role, and often the strategies and advice are set alongside a speech and language therapist. The successful candidate will be part of a close-knit team, have regular supervision and will have the opportunity to grow and develop their skills in a supportive environment. A sound knowledge of child development, a belief in inclusive education for all and a child and family centred approach is essential. You will need to be able to: Support successful inclusion in education. Provide observations to inform interventions Successfully plan and co-deliver training offered by the Early Years Inclusion and SEND Service. Ensure that the views/preferences of children are listened to as part of any assessment or intervention plan. Work in a multi-agency way to plan, deliver and review personalised interventions for children in consultation with the Senior Area SENDCO; and to liaise with other support services, such as Educational Psychologists or Speech and Language therapists within the child’s locality if required. Demonstrate the ability to plan, develop and evaluate appropriate resources for use with children, staff and families, using up to date research and best practice to meet specific identified needs. Have a working knowledge of the EYFS and SEND code of practice Ensure all significant contacts are logged on Mosaic. Provide mentoring and peer support for colleagues as required and contribute to team meetings. Provide individual targeted support to children and settings as required. You will have: A qualification in NNEB/NVQ level 3 or equivalent Experience of implementing a range of SEND specific strategies and approaches in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Experience of co-delivering training to colleagues and professionals. Be willing to undertake training. A working understanding regarding legislation in relation to Special Educational Needs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a range of people (e.g. children and young people, parents and carers, other professionals) and in a range of contexts. Knowledge of the value of multi-agency working and show a commitment to working collaboratively with others to find solutions. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise work within time constraints. Is highly motivated and able to work independently as well as functioning as part of a team. A sound understanding of child development in the early years and EYFS.
