Your role:
The job role is to act as Mechanical Engineer for the Capital Projects Team, delivering capital and maintenance projects to educational buildings and corporate stock. You will work closely with all disciplines of the team to ensure the council is achieving value for money across each aspect of the project. You will be expected to develop close working relationships with the wider team and external stakeholders, initiating close coordination of all the elements of the project including change control procedures.
As a Mechanical Engineer you will assist the Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide full mechanical project management support to the Capital Projects Team, driving projects to meet the required project specific requirements and outcomes. You will lead or support on delivery of projects developed and procured by the Department, depending on the project size, complexity, and scale. You will act as the main point of contact on projects, including to other departmental clients, contractors, external consultants, and other stakeholders. You will assist in the development of procurement strategies and manage the internal governance approvals for each project.
About you:
You’ll have a relevant mechanical engineering qualification and/ or a minimum of 5 years’ experience designing and managing mechanical engineering projects, with a bias towards educational buildings.
You’ll have experience of working on, multi-disciplinary projects including a working knowledge of JCT Construction contracts.
Management experience in performance and construction contract management, with proven experience in the management of Design and Property consultants, including liaising with customer representatives and other third parties on design and project management issues.
Detailed knowledge of past and current building and construction technology, processes, and materials, with particular emphasis on education environments.
A creative and innovative approach to problem solving.

We deliver around £10M pa in capital projects and maintenance works, with work ranging from the project management of minor reactive/planned repairs and statutory compliance services to major new build projects up to £25M.
