Birmingham Ranger Service plays a key role in caring for and championing conservation across the city’s parks, open spaces and nature reserves. As the UK’s first accredited Nature City, Birmingham is delivering its ambitious City of Nature 25-Year Plan, and our Parks and Greenspace Service is entering an exciting period of transformation and growth. Working at the heart of our communities, our Rangers help protect, enhance and bring Birmingham’s natural spaces to life for residents and visitors alike.


About the Role

We are looking to recruit a Ranger Support Officer to complement and strengthen Birmingham’s Ranger Service. This role will play an important part in welcoming visitors, sharing environmental information and acting as a key point of contact for the public across our parks and open spaces. You will help communicate the city’s wildlife, heritage and conservation work, supporting Rangers in creating engaging, informative and enjoyable experiences for everyone who visits Birmingham’s natural spaces.


Responsibilities

* contributing to community engagement and visitor activities
* supporting site management and day-to-day operations
* managing hub orders, coordinating goods and services through the procurement system, and handling general enquiries


About you

To thrive in this role, our ideal candidate will have:

* good IT skills
* ability to maintain financial and performance information for the site
* strong communication skills
* ability to manage multiple tasks with demanding priorities
* good organisational skills

There will be an occasional requirement for out of hours attendance at various events on parks. Ranger Service staff currently work a weekend rota. This requirement is fully covered in the rate of pay indicated. Ranger Service staff also work 8 out of 12 Bank Holiday days for which additional payment is claimed. Ranger Service Hours are annualised to 36.5 hrs per week; the working pattern is 9.30am – 4.30pm in winter (25 weeks) and 9.30am – 18.00pm in summer (27 weeks).
