Due to growth and new business, The Cake Crew is seeking a Senior Specifications Technologist to join their expanding technical team. This is a hybrid role with an option to work up to 3 days on site and two days from home following a probationary/training period, or totally site-based if preferred.
The purpose of the role is the completion of retailer, customer, and own brand specifications including: Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Co-op, Aldi, Morrisons, ASDA, Lidl, Premier (Hamilton Grant), The Cake Crew, and others as required. Management and administration of the retailer systems and supporting members of the specification team.
The ideal candidate will be a well-organized individual able to use their own initiative to meet tight deadlines, working both as part of a team and individually. This person must be able to clearly communicate internally within the teams and departments as well as with retailers and third parties via both verbal and written means. Must be fully IT literate in the Microsoft Office suite.
Key areas of accountability include:
1. The writing and completion of all finished product specifications for retailers, customers, and own brand products.
2. Supplier specification approval and supplier onboarding.
3. Fully knowledgeable in primary accounts requirements including retailer/customer codes of practice/standards.
4. Supporting specification completions for other accounts as needed, including holiday cover and higher volume workloads.
5. Management of critical path tasks for primary accounts.
6. Ensuring specification completion to high standards, right first time, and meeting KPIs.
7. Management and administration of retailer systems, including specifications and artwork systems, and communicating notifications internally.
8. Generation of pack copies for own brand specifications, including sub and legal name generation.
9. Review and approval of artwork, including design, content, cutter guides, CAD references, etc., and liaising with third parties and retailers during the artwork process.
10. Supporting the NPD team with nutritional calculations and submission forms as part of the product development process.
11. Conducting cross checks with the NPD team on factory paperwork, recipes, and specifications to ensure accuracy.
12. Performing specification cross checks before submission to ensure completeness and correctness.
13. Managing Brandbank reviews, including checking and approving product photos and information before launch.
14. Participating in pre- and post-launch reviews as required.
15. Having a basic understanding of Brexit requirements and the ability to calculate related codes.
16. Attending NPD and other relevant meetings.
17. Supporting additional projects such as packaging matrix and product information reviews.
18. Supporting raw material approval and risk assessments, with basic knowledge of BRC and retailer audit requirements.
19. Understanding relevant legislation and regulations.
20. Performing other reasonable duties as required by the business, including internal audits and training new team members.
