We currently have an exciting opportunity for Band 7 Specialist Respiratory physiotherapist within the Respiratory infection service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. We have service across three sites at St Marys; Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospital with this post is primarily based at St Marys Hospital, but cross-site working is expected. Working with a team of Nurse and physiotherapist specialist and as part of the multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will be expected to lead on and provide best care for patients with chronic lung infection.
The role has a high emphasis on coordinating and delivering care to patients with bronchiectasis and other chronic lung disease in accordance with BTS/NICE guidelines. To lead the respiratory physiotherapy outpatients and coordinate bronchiectasis MDT meeting. Working closely with community respiratory teams, in facilitating early supported discharge and admission avoidance.
The successful applicant will need to have a broad range of respiratory knowledge and skills in both acute and chronic disease management supporting patients from the start of their journey into hospital and at all stages of their care until discharge. The role also supports and delivers care within the outpatient setting so the ability to work autonomously is also required. There is a high requirement for teaching and supporting others so teaching experience is also highly desirable.
Main duties of the job
To lead best practice in the care of adult bronchiectasis and chronic respiratory infection patients in a variety of settings including acute and chronic disease management.
To collaborate with other professionals and services in both the acute and primary setting to achieve a seamless service.
To assist in the co-ordination of patient care across the patient pathway, developing the pathway across the various settings to maximise patient satisfaction and outcomes.
To work with respiratory consultants, Clinical specialist physiotherapist, ward managers and Senior Clinical Nurse specialist to establish learning needs and support learning programmes.
To introduce, where appropriate, ‘evidence based practice’ into clinical protocols for respiratory care within integrated care pathways.
To work with the multidisciplinary team to prevent admission/readmission to hospital and promote good discharge procedures.
To work within the CSP/HCPC Scope of Professional Practice and code of conduct and to understand the importance of professional accountability and Competence.
To be actively involved and responsible for own professional development through developing a personal development plan, using action learning, reflective practice, professional supervision, self-appraisal and performance review.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy.
2. State registration with the Health & Care Professions Council.
3. Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio.
Desirable criteria
4. Post graduate study in Respiratory Physiotherapy
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Significant post registration experience in specialty area and experience in either junior specialty role or team leader management role
6. Experience with managing patient relevant to specialist area
7. Experience in integrated respiratory care
Desirable criteria
8. Experience in oxygen services and acute management of the unwell respiratory patient in the community setting.
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
9. Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of own patient group
10. Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes
11. Evidence of continuing professional development
12. Ability to practice within the scope of the HPC Code of Professional Conduct.
