Job Title: Technical Lead – High Voltage

Location: Manchester, England

About the Opportunity

A leading international engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Lead to support the growth of its Energy Business across the UKIMEA region. The HV team, provides multi-disciplinary design and advisory services to electricity utilities, renewable energy developers, local authorities, and industrial clients worldwide.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership, contribute to business growth, and support project delivery across a range of power systems initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide technical leadership and maintain high standards in the HV consultancy business unit.
* Support achievement of business objectives for the HV group and wider Energy team.
* Manage and motivate team members, oversee resource allocation, and ensure a diverse project portfolio.
* Act as Line Manager: set objectives, define development targets, conduct performance appraisals, and handle day-to-day personnel matters.
* Take on Project Manager responsibilities for power systems projects, ensuring delivery on budget, schedule, and quality.
* Contribute to strategic planning and target-setting.
* Support team growth through recruitment, training, and capability development.
* Travel within the UK and internationally as required to deliver projects.


They are looking for:

The successful candidate will lead the delivery of specialist power systems tasks within multi-disciplinary projects, review models and reports from team members, and provide expert input to advisory projects.


Qualifications

* PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Systems, or a related field.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the IET or equivalent professional recognition.


Skills & Experience (all or some)

* Consultancy, OEM, or TSO/DNO experience in power systems.
* Leadership and team management capabilities.
* Proficiency in modeling and performing steady-state, dynamic, and transient power system studies at distribution and transmission levels, including:
* Large renewable energy schemes
* HVDC systems
* Electricity networks
* Knowledge of UK distribution and/or transmission network grid connection processes.
* Proven track record delivering power systems studies.
* Excellent communication skills and an established network within the power sector.
