The Role:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrician to join the Responsive Repairs department within the Housing Directorate. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems across all responsive repair workstreams.
This role involves working at heights, in confined spaces, and with heavy tools and materials. A strong commitment to health and safety-for yourself and others-is essential.
* Carry out inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on electrical systems within housing and council-owned buildings.
* Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults.
* Install new electrical systems and equipment, as well as upgrade existing infrastructure.
* Ensure compliance with the latest regulations, including the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
* Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures.
* Provide rapid response to electrical emergencies, including participation in on-call rotations.
* Collaborate with contractors, colleagues, and internal teams to deliver works effectively.
* Undertake inspection and testing activities as directed.
* Work across a range of properties including occupied tenancies, offices, and void buildings.
* Safely drive and maintain a council vehicle, ensuring secure storage of materials and equipment.
* Maintain excellent customer service and professionalism at all times.
* Adhere to all organisational policies, procedures, and health & safety regulations.

The Candidate:
Knowledge & Experience
* Proven experience working within occupied domestic properties.
* Experience with commercial installations (steel trunking, conduit systems) desirable.
* Strong understanding of BS 7671 (18th Edition) with ability to stay updated on amendments.
* Skilled in use of electrical testing and measurement equipment.
* Ability to conduct Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).
* Evidence of working independently and making sound decisions on-site.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications (Essential)
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).
* City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology (or equivalent apprenticeship).
* 18th Edition Certification.
* City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Inspection & Testing.
* Full, clean UK Driving Licence.
