Job Title: Occupational Therapist in Housing
Salary: GBP37,185 to GBP50,081 per annum
Location: Chelmsford
Job Type: Full Time, Fixed Term / Secondment
Working Style: Community-based worker (office based typically 1 day per week dependent on business need)
This is a 12-month fixed term contract or secondment opportunity.
This is an exciting opportunity for a housing Occupational Therapist with experience in major adaptations to develop and support local district and borough councils. As an OT, you will work alongside Environmental Health and Housing Officers within the quadrants to facilitate the safe and early discharge of people from hospital, residential/nursing placements, and hospices.
This post offers the chance to work with adults and children with life-limiting conditions and injuries to prevent formal care placements where their home environment is currently unsuitable for their needs.
This work is essential to prevent discharge delays caused by adaptations and housing issues.
Your role will involve:
1. Completing holistic assessments considering all housing factors impacting the individual and their household.
2. Collaborating with health colleagues to process referrals.
3. Referring to universal services and liaising with other colleagues, including Family Operations.
4. Addressing needs related to impairments through equipment, support, and signposting to services.
5. Making recommendations for property types, adaptations, and equipment based on assessed needs.
6. Supporting recommendations requiring specialist input.
7. Working with Housing Officers on Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) funded recommendations.
8. Ensuring efficient progression of referrals for adaptations.
9. Innovatively developing housing services with local councils to provide optimal solutions for those with the greatest needs, reducing hospital and care residence durations.
10. Managing cases assessed by health or social care OT to support Housing Officers.
About You
You need a degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy, or an equivalent qualification, with current HCPC registration.
Experience in occupational therapy and major adaptations, with a good understanding of current legislation, regulations, and guidance, is essential. You should be skilled in building relationships with partner agencies and the community, and confident in person-centred and positive risk-taking approaches.
This role requires travel throughout Essex. A driving license and access to a car, or the ability to meet mobility requirements, are essential. Registration with the DBS update service is also required.
