Assisting the Registered Nurse with assessing, planning, and implementing care for Emergency Department patients. Working under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and reporting to the Nurse in Charge. Escalating concerns to registered professionals. Documenting on the electronic patient records.
Attend training and ensure compliance is maintained.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills, maintain professional boundaries, and work within own limitations and scope of practice.
Responsibilities include personal care, assisting patients with nutritional needs, monitoring vital signs, pain assessment, wound care (cleaning wounds and applying dressings), wound closure under supervision, phlebotomy, cannulation, applying plaster of Paris back slabs, splints, bandages, assessing patients for crutch walking including fitting.
Additional duties include blood glucose testing, pregnancy testing, urine testing (sending samples for microscopy under instruction), and recording ECGs.
Maintain cleanliness of all areas of the department, decontaminate cubicles, and prepare cubicles for patient use.
