Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic midwife with experience in Quality and Safety, based at Whipps Cross Hospital. Your role will support the Deputy Associate Director of Midwifery for Quality and Safety in the development of the governance strategy for maternity services.

You will support in the development of the quality and safety agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus. You will work in conjunction with the divisional management team and site governance team to ensure the delivery and achievement of the group's objectives and contribute to the strategic policies for midwifery and maternity services.

The post holder will assist the Deputy Associate Director of Midwifery for Quality and Safety in the development of the professional midwifery agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus.

The post holder will support the Deputy ADoM for Quality and Safety to champion the excellent care of women and their families through professional leadership, in service learning and supporting staff to help establish the hospital as a innovator and leader in the field of healthcare education and research that underpins service based learning.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Governance Quality and Safety lead is responsible for the management of the clinical governance and risk processes within Maternity services. They will support in the development of the quality and safety agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus.


They will work in conjunction with the Deputy ADoM for Quality and Safety and site governance team to ensure the delivery and achievement of the group's objectives and contribute to the strategic policies for midwifery and maternity services.


The role involves oversight of the risk register, supporting the divisional board on risk management, compliance and Datix management and processing complex data and information. The post holder will be expected to deputise for the Deputy Associate Director for Quality and Safety. The post holder will also be responsible for providing reports as required to Divisional and Executive meetings.

Essential criteria

1. Experience of working in Maternity services at band 7 or above
2. Experience of analysing and interpreting information from multiple sources to manage variances in performance and identify solutions to deliver improvement
3. Demonstrable understanding of the NHS Quality agenda.
4. Proven track record of success in managing change.
5. Experience of developing and implementing service wide strategies, policies and procedures
6. Working knowledge of current NHS quality/compliance agenda
7. Experience of dealing with complaints
8. Experience of managing a project using project management methodology
9. Experience of managing staff

Desirable criteria

10. Experience in working in NHS regulatory compliance.
11. Experience in leadership/management role in a large/complex healthcare organisation
12. Experience of chairing multidisciplinary meetings

Skills

Essential criteria

13. Highly developed communication skills in a range of media, written, oral, presentation, electronic.
14. Political awareness – ability to perceive impact of compliance requirements on the decisions and activities of others.
15. Ability to analyse and interpret data and statistics and present complex information in an easy-to-understand way.
16. Ability to prioritise effectively in the face of competing demands, and work under pressure to strict deadlines.
17. Strong leadership, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to motivate and engage individuals and teams to deliver compliance objectives in the context of organisational operational goals and strategic objectives.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

19. Broad understanding of the NHS and key policy issues that affect business performance and the policy framework within which NHS services operate.
20. Substantial knowledge of CQC compliance.
21. Demonstrable understanding of quality improvement and benchmarking and implementing improvements in practice.

22. Previous experience of delivering elements of CNST

23. Evidence of continuing professional development
24. Educated to Master’s level or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.

25. Project & Programme management and Change Management qualifications (e.g. Prince 2, MSP, Agile, APMP)
