The logistics team delivers overarching command and control as well as acting as a centre of excellence for the end to end logistics process at HPC. We are the intelligent owners of the logistics process and strategy, operating as an integrated enabler for the successful delivery of the HPC project.
The Construction Logistics Distribution Lead (CLDL) is responsible for overseeing and optimising the Final Mile Logistics (FML) distribution strategy to manage the logistics flow of permanent material from arrival at site through to the construction areas. This single role ensures seamless, centralised coordination of material deliveries to designated areas within Hinkley Point C. The CLDL is accountable for aligning distribution activities with project timelines, maintaining safety and compliance standards, and driving operational efficiency. By streamlining last-mile delivery processes, the role plays a critical part in ensuring construction milestones are met and resources are effectively allocated.
Principal Accountabilities
The CLDL ensures efficient logistic distribution operations onsite within Hinkley Point C. The CLDL ensures the logistics teams deliver high-quality distribution services that meet the demands of the construction programme.
Team:
Champion best practice and behaviours across Construction Logistics and at all levels; continuous development of Logistics approach by capturing and sharing operational experience and learning
Review and ratify information and insights for onward communication to key stakeholders providing visibility of reporting from a local level.
Analyse and assimilate information to identify key risks and make evidence-based decisions to drive Logistics strategy using a pragmatic and systematic approach with the ability to think clearly under pressure
Deliver clear and concise Executive level insights to drive robust decision-making utilising commercial and technical information to influence decisions which support robust management of the logistics
Apply fundamental project and business project controls principles and interfaces with wider management processes with an ability to effectively lead outcome driven sessions with cross-functional teams
Oversee the updates to schedule and cost resulting from changes in forecasting and trends and works with other functional areas in understanding the impact and mitigation solutions of key risks
Collaborate with colleagues within and across organisational boundaries to achieve mutually successful outcomes in keeping with the HPC project values of "Humility, Positivity, Respect, Solidarity and Clarity" and culture of "Trust, Transparency and Teamwork
Lead, coach and support all staff within the Construction Logistics Discipline, championing the use of standardised processes and procedures ensuring quality delivery
Logistics Services and Reporting:
The CLDL oversees all FML distribution activities, ensuring that material deliveries are timely, accurate, and compliant with safety standards. Regular performance reporting is a key aspect of the role, providing insights into operational efficiency, identifying bottlenecks, and informing strategic adjustments to the distribution plan.
The CLDL will be:
Accountable for ensuring Construction Logistics meet performance standards and KPIs within distribution operations.
Accountable for the development and improvement of Logistics systems within their scope of work and reports capable of delivering the Project objectives
Champion the use of Project governance and Logistics standards and procedures
Ensuring that all Project documents, in particular Sensitive Nuclear Information, are correctly protectively marked, and protected in accordance with EDF policies and procedures
Functional Management
Contribute to the development of leadership KPIs to ensure proper cascade of performance objectives
Conduct regular performance reviews of distribution activity and drive improvements against defined KPIs to support the Senior Construction Logistics Manager.
Maintain metrics and analyse data to assess performance and recommend improvements using enterprise tools
Identify current and future risks to Construction Logistics i.e. capacity problems and mitigate risks effectively
Proactively seek to continuously improve Construction Logistics Distribution performance by implementing best practice and learning
Assure and facilitate collaboration with Programme teams and wider industry partners to ensure consistency and transparency in approach and data
Ensure that direct reports properly protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of corporate information from unauthorised disclosure, modification or destruction
Champion the HPC Project and EDF Energy by exhibiting and encouraging behaviours which are in alignment with the Project's values of Humility, Positivity, Clarity, Respect and Solidarity
Ensure the alignment between Logistics Operations and Construction Logistics stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Knowledge & Skills:
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in logistics management within construction or similar large-scale projects. A strong background in supply chain operations, team leadership, and compliance is essential. Experience in managing complex distribution networks and familiarity with Final Mile Logistics processes are highly desirable.
Construction and Logistics Expertise: Strong background in Construction and Logistics operations, providing valuable insights into operational requirements
Experienced in Logistics distribution operations, especially for Major Capital projects, in the construction industry, or other relevant industry
Critical understanding of how the impact of changes/decisions may impact the risk profile of the project and Construction Logistics delivery
Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Demonstrable experience in effectively communicating complex issues and concepts (unique insights) in simple ways, to both technical and non-technical senior audiences
Demonstrable experience in effectively collaborating with colleagues within and across organisational boundaries to achieve mutually successful outcomes
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience
Preferrable for Logistics Specific Qualifications or equivalent industry experience
At least 5 years manager level experience leading a Logistics team in a complex, highly regulated industry (ideally nuclear, aerospace, logistics construction, large infrastructure logistics or energy) working in a role, which requires active integration management and senior level influencing with multiple stakeholders
Experience of practical application of Logistics frameworks and methodologies, and how they are applied in infrastructure projects to deliver positive business outcomes
Expert in Logistics technology solutions with experience of managing the implementation and effective delivery of complex projects using these software solutions
Proven leadership experience and experience of supporting a team to maximise the delivery of a team
