Dispensing Optician

Provide the lead specialty within clinical and professional guidelines, in the provision of a comprehensive spectacle dispensing service.
Responsibilities
* Manage and run the spectacle dispensing service within the Department of Optometry to the highest standards of quality and care.
* Undertake administrative duties as agreed with the Head of Optometry.
* Provide teaching and training for all disciplines within Oxford Eye Hospital.
* Undertake clinical audit of the dispensing service.
* Work unsupervised in all areas of ophthalmic dispensing.
* Receive and interpret spectacle prescriptions for patients refracted within the Optometry Department. Carry out routine and complex spectacle dispensing, discuss prescription implications with the patient, and determine and dispense an appropriate frame and lens combination to meet the patient's requirements.
* Carry out necessary lens calculations to obtain optimum visual performance and modify spectacle prescriptions within the parameters set out for Registered Dispensing Opticians by the Opticians Act 1989.
* Provide highly specialised dispensing solutions as part of the overall management of a patient (e.g., trigeminal cups for dry eye management, spectacle mounted low vision appliances, safety eyewear, swimming goggles and sports eyewear).
* Check and verify multiple parameters using specialised equipment on spectacle lenses, frame orders and contact lens orders against BS/EN standards, taking appropriate action when necessary.
* Accurately take frame and facial measurements to ensure the correct fit for spectacle frames and proper positioning of lenses within the frames.
