Overview
This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring Structural Engineer to join our Birmingham office to learn what it takes to engineer first-class design solutions on some of the most prestigious built environment projects in the UK and worldwide. Working as part of our established team of expert engineers and technicians, you will gain a recognised qualification while providing specialist consultancy input on projects across a wide range of sectors including education, residential, critical systems (data centres), retail, workplace, sculpture and rollercoasters. You will have day-release to study for appropriate academic qualifications at Coventry University. Cundall can also offer support towards achieving chartership status with the IStructE, with long-term opportunities for a rewarding career.
Responsibilities
* Apply civil engineering techniques, procedures and methods, and review results when measuring and testing, designing, installing, commissioning, maintaining or operating civil engineering systems
* Employ advanced mathematical, statistical and data interpretation tools to interpret and solve civil engineering problems
* Interpret and compare performance information to choose compliant materials, components or parts
* Select and use technical literature and data sources to address well-defined civil engineering problems
* Produce and interpret civil engineering technical drawings, designs and models using analytical and computer-based software packages
* Produce civil engineering technical solutions in accordance with industry standards, procedures, codes of practice, regulations and legislation
* Comply with and encourage others to follow health, safety and welfare policies, procedures and regulations
* Complete risk assessments to identify, evaluate and mitigate risks
* Apply principles of sustainable development and assess their impact on work
* Employ project management techniques and measure progress against civil engineering project plans
* Assess and report on quality using appropriate management and assurance systems and continuous improvement processes
* Identify and use resources, equipment and technology to meet project requirements, including specifications, budget and timescales
* Monitor and manage individual performance, and supervise others, complying with codes of practice and equality, diversity & inclusion (EDI) requirements
* Communicate using appropriate methods for the audience with clear engineering terminology and conventions
* Apply ethical principles to civil engineering projects, including the secure use of data and information
* Plan, undertake and review professional competence, and update CPD to improve performance
Qualifications and Requirements
* maths & English at GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent
* A-Level grades at DDD (three D grades) must include Mathematics
* BTEC National Extended Diploma: MMP (Merit, Merit, Pass) in Engineering/Construction related subjects
* Demonstrated interest in engineering and/or construction during studies/experience
* Willingness to learn new skills and work toward goals
* Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines; good communication skills; interest in a career in creative, sustainable, and intuitive design
* Personal qualities: attention to detail, analytical skills, teamwork
