Job Description

Use your experience to help someone rewrite theirs

As a Dual Diagnosis Peer Support Outreach Worker, your lived experience will be your greatest strength. You’ll walk alongside people facing homelessness, mental health issues and addiction, offering empathy, support and the kind of hope that only someone who’s been there can give.

Working Style

You’ll be based in the Borough for three days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you’re working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be part of our dedicated Street Population Outreach Team, working closely with the Rough Sleeper Dual Diagnosis Outreach team to support residents navigating some of life’s most difficult challenges. Many of the people you’ll meet have been let down or overlooked – your role is to show them they’re not alone and that recovery is possible.

You’ll help build trust with individuals who may be reluctant to engage with services, offering encouragement and support based on your own journey. Whether you’re out on patrol with the outreach team, attending appointments with clients, or co-facilitating group sessions, your presence and perspective will be invaluable.

You’ll support people with everyday tasks – from attending benefits appointments to accessing treatment – and play a key role in monitoring their progress and sharing any concerns. You’ll also bring insight to the wider team, helping shape more compassionate, effective support.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification

What You’ll Bring

You’ll bring your own lived experience of working with street homelessness, addiction or mental health struggles – and a real desire to use that experience to help others. You don’t need to have all the answers – just the openness, empathy and resilience to support people who are on their own path to recovery.

You’ll be someone who listens without judgement, communicates clearly and can build strong, respectful relationships. You’ll be reflective in your work, willing to learn and ready to be part of a team that values care, honesty and consistency.

Why join us

At RBKC, we’re all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.

This role gives you the chance to develop therapeutic skills, learn about dual diagnosis approaches and grow in a role that’s rooted in purpose. You’ll be supported by colleagues who understand the importance of your journey and are committed to helping you make the most of your experience.

About Us

Kensington and Chelsea is home to diverse communities, thriving businesses and unique local places. Everything we do is focused on supporting our residents, strengthening our approach and creating a fairer borough.

As a competent and caring Council, we take pride in our work every day, ensuring our services are delivered with care and competence. We listen to our residents, act with integrity and work together to build a borough that is greener, safer and fairer for all.

You’ll be part of a team that shows up fully – even when the work is hard. You’ll get stuck in wherever you're needed, bringing your story, your strength and your belief that everyone deserves another chance. You’ll stand with people others may have walked past. You’ll offer encouragement on days that feel heavy. And in doing so, you’ll remind people – and maybe even yourself – that recovery isn’t just possible, it’s real.

Interview Details And Role Requirements

Interviews will be held on week commencing 17th July 2025.

This post will require a Enhanced DBS check.

Fixed Term- until April 2026 - 16 hours per week
