Backend & Integrations Engineer – AI-Focused (Apps Engineering)
This role sits within a fast-growing tech company focused on solving productivity challenges across organizations. The team is building an AI-driven platform that identifies operational inefficiencies and automatically generates high-quality software to address them. The company is well-funded, scaling quickly, and staffed by experienced engineers from major global tech firms.
Role Overview
You’ll develop and refine backend services, integrations, and workflow logic for SaaS applications. Much of the work involves taking machine-generated code (including backend and orchestration components), improving it, and preparing it for production. You’ll also lead the way in embedding AI-assisted development practices within the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and maintain backend features and APIs (Python, FastAPI, gRPC, SQL).
* Improve and extend AI-generated pipelines and frontend outputs.
* Build and maintain integrations with external APIs, file systems, and third-party services.
* Implement and monitor LLM-powered functionality.
* Promote AI-assisted development workflows and support teammates in using them effectively.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams across product, data, platform, and support.
What You Bring
* Solid experience building backend systems in Python, with strong API and SQL skills.
* Background in systems integration (e.g., APIs, SFTP, SharePoint, webhooks).
* Knowledge of orchestration tools such as Temporal or Dagster.
* Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools in a production environment.
* Comfort working with auto-generated code and improving automation workflows.
* Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, and major cloud platforms.
* An interest in AI and improving team-wide adoption of AI tooling.
