As a Control and Protection Engineering Level 6 Degree Apprentice you will be based out of our Newcastle Office.
This exciting new opportunity represents a new growth period for Siemens Energy Transmission Solutions and offers excellent opportunities to be part of our fantastic Apprenticeship programme. We have several engineering degree apprenticeships available within Siemens Energy, and this particular opportunity will be supporting our Control and Protection Engineering team.
Alongside your full time work, you will be working towards a L6 BEng Product Design and Development Engineer at Newcastle University.

How You’ll Make an Impact
A Control and Protection Engineer will design networks comprising of advanced intelligent devices using modern Ethernet protocols such as IEC61850 to interconnect the systems required to protect a substation. The engineer will also design the configuration and settings of the intelligent devices, test these configurations within a laboratory environment, and assist with the installation and commissioning of the products both on- and offshore.
The role will develop a strong appreciation of both hardware and software systems, along with knowledge of Cybersecurity and communication network components such as switches and routers.
1. Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint, A design engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes.
2. Gain experience in the technology and construction methods utilised in the business.
3. Gain first-hand exposure to the role by working closely with Senior Design Engineers and Project Managers.
4. Develop key technology and toolset skills in design, visualisation and construction techniques.
What You Bring
5. 3 A Levels at grade C or above (or equivalent) preferably including Maths and Science.
6. GCSE requirement – grade C or above in Maths, English (or equivalent qualifications) and an additional STEM subject at grades C, or 5, or above
7. Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery.
8. Enjoyment of working within a team environment.
9. It would be beneficial, although not essential, for applicants to have some relevant industrial experience summer placements.
10. Must be flexible and adaptable.
11. Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver.
