Join our large, established, and research‑active Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) pharmacy team, led by a Consultant Pharmacist. We pioneer the use of Computer Decision Support Systems (CDSS) for AMS rounds, integrating cutting‑edge technology into daily practice.
The Specialist Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist will lead and develop a robust framework for safe, cost‑effective and rational use of antimicrobials across the Trust, shaping local prescribing policies, participating in drug review and audit programmes, and driving innovative stewardship strategies.
Key Responsibilities
* Independent Ward Rounds: Lead specialist antimicrobial ward rounds autonomously, providing expert advice, optimising prescribing and ensuring safe, effective use.
* OPAT Service Leadership: Lead the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service, overseeing patient assessment, prescribing, monitoring and care coordination.
* Supervision & Training: Supervise, mentor and train junior pharmacists, pre‑registration pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in antimicrobial stewardship.
* Policy Development: Develop, review and implement local antimicrobial prescribing policies and guidelines, aligned with national recommendations.
* Audit & Quality Improvement: Design and conduct antimicrobial audits, analyse data to identify improvements, and drive change initiatives to enhance quality and cost‑effectiveness.
* Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the Lead Directorate Pharmacist, Consultant Microbiologists, Infection Control teams and other hospital staff to drive AMS initiatives.
* Medication Safety: Contribute to reducing antimicrobial medication errors and promote overall medication safety within the specialty.
* Driving Innovation with Technology: Engage with pioneer Computer Decision Support Systems (CDSS) for AMS rounds, help evolve these tools to enhance prescribing decisions and streamline workflow.
