Associate Environmental Design Researcher, London
AtkinsRéalis Building Design Practice is committed to delivering projects in the built environment that enhance quality of life for their users. We have a dedicated multi-disciplinary R&I team, including design researchers, environmental analysts, data scientists, and digital developers, which is expanding. We are seeking an Associate Environmental Design Researcher to support our design and environmental research projects.
This role is initially advertised as maternity cover, with an expected start date from July 2024.
Responsibilities:
* Report to the Director/Head of Design Research to develop practical solutions for design challenges and deliver research projects.
* Assess and integrate environmental concepts such as health & wellbeing, thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and LCA.
* Prepare and present technical and strategic reports for clients in various formats.
* Possess strong knowledge of environmental design research, urban studies, and technology applications related to human experience in the built environment.
* Understand environmental assessment procedures (e.g., BREEAM, LEED, LETI, MOSTADAM), preferably with certification.
Skills & Experience:
* Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Design, or relevant experience.
* Proven experience in technical and research work within the built environment.
* Knowledge of architectural design, building physics, bioclimatic, low-energy, and passive design, with application experience.
* Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
* Experience with research methods and tools like environmental modelling, data analysis, literature reviews, and design thinking.
Software Knowledge:
* Familiarity with environmental analysis software such as DesignBuilder, Envi-met, WinAir, and others.
* Knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper, and plugins like Ladybug and Honeybee.
* Experience analyzing environmental data (climate, weather, sensors, urban data).
